Don't wait a single moment to start improving the world with us! Our blog is packed with opportunity, inspiration, education, and our spring campaign - running for education! You can contribute, too! Here's how:

  • Educate Girls and Run the World:

This March through June, She's the First is giving you a fun opportunity to send more girls to school. It's as simple as asking friends and family to support you in a race, or organizing your own fitness fundraiser, from yoga to spinning classes. Sign up your event on our Causevox page and help us sponsor 100 girls in 100 days!

  • Consider starting a campus chapter:

Do you want to make a difference on your home campus? Join the 30+ campus chapters across the country and inspire your middle school, high school, or university to empower and educate girls in the developing world!

Just in time for lunch, here is a picture that is good enough to eat!

Rice, dahl, and curry on the side, served on a banana leaf! Christen Brandt and Kate Lord recently returned from their trip to India, visiting with students from Shanti Bhavan.
Fun Fact: Maheshwari, a Shanti Bhavan student, and her mom had to teach Christen and Kate how to eat rice with their hands!

A beautiful, and much loved, spot on the campus at Shanti Bhavan. Look at how brave Prathiba is by overcoming her fear and jumping from boulder to boulder!

My thought was, how do I empower these people, the poor? I could think of one way – education. One good place to put the investment is on children. Most poverty models that exist today don’t emphasize quality; they talk about quantity. If you’re going to permanently break the cycle of social and economic disadvantage, you have to do something different.

If we can create an institution – Shanti Bhavan – that would take a few children and give them the best care and the best education, and they become leaders of tomorrow, they will carry with them hundreds of others – their own families and many more. They will make their own contributions for the future generations. And if we had 100 Shanti Bhavans, we can break the cycle of social discrimination. 2,000 years of the caste system can be broken in 50 years if we would have many Shanti Bhavans.
